Financial Aid & Scholarships
By the end of the 2020-2021 academic year, the College awarded 116 scholarships totaling nearly $280,000.
The College of Social Work offers scholarships for BSW, MSW, and PhD students. These awards include specific scholarships for Native American students and non-traditional students, scholarships for promise in many social work specialties, merit and need-based scholarships, and many more. Please note that some of these specific scholarships may require additional documentation.
Scholarship Application Deadlines
October 15, 2021 - Application opens for fall, spring, and summer semester scholarships
March 31, 2022 – Deadline for all current and incoming PhD students
April 15, 2022 - Deadline for all current and incoming BSW, HSW, and MSW students
June 30, 2022 - Scholarship notification through University of Utah email address
FAFSA - Free Application for Federal Student Aid
This is required for all need-based scholarships within the University of Utah. Students are not required to accept federal financial aid, but scholarship applicants who do not complete the FAFSA will not be considered for any need-based awards.
College of Social Work-funded Practicum Opportunities
Katie L. Dixon Women & Girls Leadership Fund
This University of Utah College of Social Work program provides young women with fun, age-appropriate, engaging, in-school programming focusing on self-esteem, skill-development, mentoring, and leadership. Due to limited funding, this is a competitive application process. The application deadline for fall is September 15 and the application deadline for spring is February 1.
Neighbors Helping Neighbors and Caring for Older Adults Experiential Scholarships
These College of Social Work scholarship opportunities, which are funded by the George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Foundation and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Foundation, provide funding to students participating in the Neighbors Helping Neighbors practicum or in any practicum placement focused on working with older adults. If you fit this criteria, please contact Regina Campbell (Regina.Campbell@socwk.utah.edu) and Emily Breen (Emily.Breen@utah.edu) to be considered for this scholarship funding. Students are encouraged to apply to the College’s general scholarship application by April 15thfor priority consideration for this scholarship.
