Utah Commission on Criminal and Juvenile Justice and Utah Department of Corrections Evidence-Based Practice Adherence Summary Report

Study Dates: 2013 – 2015

Study Description: To help support the Utah Justice Reinvestment Initiative, Utah Commission on Criminal and Juvenile Justice asked UCJC to evaluate Utah’s treatment programs in both their prison and jails state-wide on their adherence to Evidence-Based Practices (EBP) and provide ongoing quality improvement technical assistance.

In January 2014, the Utah Department of Corrections selected eight programs to participate in the process. This report is an aggregate summary of the eight program evaluations and results of a focus group conducted with program directors.

This evaluation recommends improvements that can be made both by correction treatment programs and the Utah criminal justice system. These recommendations are intended to serve as a roadmap for sustainable implementation and replication of EBP in Utah and to develop a just, effective, and evidence-based system.
