Determinants of Length of Stay in Utah’s Juvenile Secure Care Facilities

Study Dates: 2014

Study Description: UCJC analyzed the qualitative and quantitative factors that predict length of stay (LOS) in Utah’s juvenile secure care facilities. The report examines both youth-level and system-level factors related to LOS. Departures from the goals of Utah’s indeterminate sentencing structure are documented, and recommendations for improving the processes that lead to departures are provided based on both qualitative and quantitative findings.
