Graduate Fellowship
Overview:
Cygnus Consultation is a small private practice opening in 2025. It is located in
between the University of Utah and downtown Salt Lake City, on the corner of 77 South
and 700 East. Its mission is to provide high quality psychodynamic/psychoanalytic
psychotherapy at a reduced fee for those seeking therapy in the Salt Lake City area,
while also helping new clinicians become established and prepare for a career in private
practice.
Fellowship Description:
The position is a 2-year post graduate Fellowship designed to provide the supervised
experience necessary to qualify post-graduate students for licensure in mental health
disciplines, including Psychology, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, and Clinical
Mental Health Counseling. The Fellowship will be structured individually depending
upon the requirements of the State of Utah for licensure in the respective disciplines.
The Fellow will be tasked with providing excellence in patient care, including professionalism
and ethics. The Fellow will demonstrate competency in understanding and providing
mental health services to individuals of all ages and backgrounds. The Fellow will
be responsible for clinical duties; medical record documentation; intake
assessments; individual, couple, and family therapy. As this is a new clinic, it is
important that the Fellow be flexible and open to change as the clinic and its needs
evolve with time.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Carry a clinical case load of 25-30 patient hours/week, working 30-35 hours/week
- Charting patient visits
- Willingness to work evenings and weekends (if necessary)
- (Preferred, but not necessary) Conduct a variety of assessments, including personality,
cognitive, and educational.
- Score assessments
- Report writing
- Patient Feedback
Minimum Qualifications:
Recently completed a nationally accredited graduate training program in a mental health
related field and, as applicable, certified resident status in psychology or associate
status for marriage and family therapy, social work, and mental health counselor candidates.
Strong interest in psychoanalytic psychotherapy and working in a private practice setting, as weekly supervision will be provided by a clinical psychologist/psychoanalyst.
Preferred but not required: Bilingual, Spanish
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Able to provide essential functions of the job as outlined above
- Maintain and sustain a confidential, safe, client-centered, quality experience
- Maintain timely, accurate documentation of client records
- Basic knowledge of best practice regarding mental health including the following
areas:- CBT
- Psychodynamic Psychotherapy
- EMDR
- Trauma informed therapy
- EFT
- Familiarity with Psychological assessments including intellectual, educational, and personality measures (preferred, but not required)
- Assess clients through clinical interview and establish appropriate case formulation and treatment plan
- Comfortable working with a wide range of patient difficulties
- Ability to provide clinical services consistent with level of training
- Comfortable working with individuals, couples, and families from a diverse range of backgrounds
- Development of high standards of professional responsibility, professional ethics, continuing education
- Able to be a team player and foster a collaborative, supportive, committed, and dedicated collegial working atmosphere
- Ability to cooperate, collaborate, and communicate with a wide variety of individuals, and to facilitate good working relationships with staff employees and other clinic professionals
- Facility with Microsoft office, including Word and Excel
- Honor highly confidential information
- Be flexible and responsive to a changing work environment and needs
- Ability to prepare and conduct psychoeducational workshops
- Ability to promote and sustain self-care and morale
- Willingness to be up-to-date on all vaccines, including COVID-19 and Flu
Salary and Benefits:
The compensation ranges listed below are based on a clinical case load of 25 patient
hours per week:
- $48,000-$55,000 for the first Fellowship year
- $55,000-$62,000 for the second Fellowship year
The salaries for this role will be set based on a variety of factors including but not limited to experience, education, clinical specialty and training.
Bonus compensation may be provided for each face-to-face patient hour in excess of 26 hours per week.
A stipend for up to $1500 for office furnishings is available. Upon successful completion of Fellowship terms and obtaining professional licensure, Fellow will be able to keep furnishings paid for by the stipend.
Benefits include 3 weeks paid time off for vacation, one week for illness, and 2 months for parental leave. If requested, these can be joined together for up to a 3-month parental leave of absence; however, the option to combine all paid time off is only available once 12 months of work have been completed. A monthly membership to a local gym, yoga studio, or a monthly 2-hour massage by the in-house massage therapist is also a paid benefit. The terms of this benefit can be negotiated on a case-by-case basis. Also, depending upon the needs of the Fellow, a yearly stipend for continuing education reimbursements may be provided, amount TBD.
Benefits also include malpractice insurance coverage.
Health insurance is not offered as a benefit, but some reimbursement may be negotiable.
