Courses:

  • Days of the week in which summer semester courses are held vary by year, though they are generally during the day. During fall and spring semesters, courses are typically held on Thursday and Friday days.
  • Practicum (fieldwork) is completed on the other weekdays. The majority of practicum placements are during normal business hours. Evening/weekend opportunities are likely to be limited.

Grades:

  • MSW students must earn a C+ or better in each of the required courses, including Practicum, to take the second course in any sequenced courses (e.g., Practice I and Practice II) and to move forward in the program.
  • Advanced Standing students may not take fall and spring coursework unless all Bridge courses and SW6040 DSM and Psychopathology are passed with a grade of C+ or better.
  • MSW students must maintain a cumulative 3.0 GPA to be in good academic standing.

Additional Coursework:

  • Students must take one Advanced Practice course outside of chosen area of focus in year two.
  • School Social Work is not an area of focus. School SW courses count as electives, and only students admitted to the School Social Work career path may take these courses.

Reminders:

  • Students in the Advanced Standing program must successfully complete a minimum of 45 credit hours.
  • Students may take up to 16 credit hours in any one semester without requiring pre-approval from the MSW Program Director and the Dean of the Graduate School.
