Q: What is the CEU Institute?
A: The CEU Institute is a five-day, fully online continuing education event hosted by the University of Utah College of Social Work, running May 11-15, 2026. Two live sessions run each day, one in the morning (9:00 AM - 12:00 PM) and one in the afternoon (1:00 PM - 4:00 PM). All sessions are led by expert practitioners, clinicians, and researchers actively working in behavioral health in Utah.
Q: Do I have to attend live?
A: Not necessarily. You have a few options depending on how you prefer to attend:
-
- If you can't attend live sessions, choose an On-Demand package so you can watch sessions anytime on your schedule.
- If you plan to attend live sessions but also want access to all recordings, choose a Live + On-Demand package.
- If you only want to attend live and don't need recordings, a Live-Only package will work for you.
Q: Where does the event take place?
A: If you plan to attend live, you will attend via Zoom Webinar. You will receive your personal access link via the email address you registered with within 24-48 hours. Keep this email so that you can easily log in to your session on the day of. If you plan to attend asynchronously through the On-Demand library, you will receive an email with full access details once the live event closes and the library is ready, approximately one month after the event ends. You will not receive immediate access at the time of purchase.
Q: Who can earn CEU credits at this event?
A: Licensed mental health professionals are eligible, including LCSWs, CSWs, SSWs, CMHCs, SUDCs, LMFTs, LPCs, psychologists, and other licensed professionals. You do not need to be a Utah resident as long as your state accepts CEUs from accredited universities.
Q: Does this event count toward my DOPL renewal?
A: Yes, under Utah Administrative Code R156-60-105, continuing education may be approved by, conducted by, or under the sponsorship of a recognized accredited college or university. The University of Utah is regionally accredited through the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities, which means no additional third-party provider approval is needed. You can apply these credits directly to your renewal.
Q: Do live Zoom webinar sessions count as live hours?
A: Yes, R156-60e-402.1(3)(b) explicitly lists approved CE formats. Synchronous distance learning courses that are clearly documented as real-time and interactive count as live hours and do not draw from the 10-hour self-study cap. Asynchronous (on-demand) courses count toward the 10-hour self-study limit. All live Zoom Webinar sessions offered by the College of Social Work qualify as synchronous, real-time, interactive distance learning under this rule.
Q: How do I get my CEU certificate?
A: After each live session, you will receive an email with a link to complete a short quiz. Once you pass, your certificate will be issued automatically via email. Certificates are issued per session, so you will have yours shortly after each one wraps up.
Q: What if I watch on demand instead of live? Can I still earn credits?
A: Yes. On-demand sessions also include a quiz. Complete the quiz, and your certificate will be issued the same way. On-demand sessions count toward self-study hours for license renewal.
Q: How many CEUs can I earn?
A: Each 3-hour session equals 3 CEU credits. With multiple sessions across the week, and with on-demand options, you can earn enough credits to cover a full two-year renewal cycle for most license types, all in one week!
- Live + On-Demand or On-Demand Only: Earn up to 60 CEUs
- Live Only: Earn up to 27 CEUs
