Substance Use Disorder Treatment Training Certificate (SUDTTC) Admission Application

NOTE: Applicants should carefully read ALL instructions below before applying.

Policy

The Substance Use Disorder Treatment Training Certificate (SUDTTC) Program operates under a selective admissions policy, one that is committed to: (1) educating and training students for professional and ethical substance use disorder counselor practice; (2) maintaining a program of integrity and excellence; (3) assuring availability of quality field practicum placements; and (4) adhering to evidence-based practice. The SUDTTC Program reserves the right to admit a certain number of students each year. Meeting the minimum standards does not guarantee a student will be admitted into the program. Students who are denied admission may reapply but are encouraged to meet with an Academic Advisor.

Courses in the SUDTTC Program are restricted to students who have been admitted into the program. Students should meet with an Academic Advisor to create an academic plan that includes application to the SUDTTC Program.

Program Admissions

The SUDTTC Program operates on a rolling admissions basis. Once accepted, you will be able to begin the program the following academic semester.

Prerequisites

The following courses are required prerequisites for the SUDTTC program:

  • Human Behavior in the Social Environment or Lifespan Human Development
  • General Psychology

Note: You may have completed equivalent versions of these courses at another institution. Check with a BSW academic advisor to ensure that the courses you took at a transfer institution will indeed satisfy prerequisites. Please also note that the above prerequisite courses must be completed with a grade of C- or better. Prerequisites must be completed prior to beginning the program.

Admissions Decisions

All applicants will be notified via email regarding their admissions decision about 8 weeks after the application submission.

Required Application Forms

SUDTTC Program applicants must fully complete the entire application for program admission:

  1. Choose the correct academic year from the application dropdown menu to start your application. For example, if you intend to start the SUDTTC Program in Spring 2027, you would choose 2027 Certificate Application from the dropdown menu, even if the current calendar year is 2026 at the time you apply. You will choose the intended starting semester inside the application itself.

  2. Request 1 Reference Form from Your Recommender. It is crucial that you let your recommender know that your application will not be reviewed until they submit the form.

  3. You will be able to upload your transcripts, resume, and personal statement directly to the program application form. You will be able to submit your application once you have uploaded/entered all information requested, but your application will not move forward until your recommender has submitted their form.
