Employment Specialist

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Communicate effectively with the individual’s team and employer
  • Punctuality and regular/consistent attendance at the worksite are required and the employee must be able to ensure proper oversight of individuals and their worksite schedules and facilitate successful employment outcomes
  • Follows and applies coaching techniques that promote individual independence in the workplace
  • Build professional relationships with employers
  • Teach individuals daily living skills as it relates to the job
  • Create opportunities for people to increase quality of life in their work environment
  • Support the individual’s choices through Discovery and implement Person Centered Plans (PCSP) and goals
  • Complete necessary administrative tasks and documentation within established time frames
  • Complete and document all that is required by Covenant Employment Services and the State such as employment records and performance
  • Supports problem solving processes by coaching the employer and individual while assessing performance. Renegotiate as needed with an employer
  • Perform other related duties or projects as assigned by supervisor

 

Requirements

  • Minimum of least 21 years old
  • Pass a criminal background check and drug screen
  • Must possess a valid Utah driver license and have a good driving record
  • Should possess the ability to speak, read and write effectively in English

 

Experience or Education:

  • High school Diploma or GED

 

Training and Certifications:

  • Preferred to be a Certified Customized Employment Specialist through the Association of Community Rehabilitation Educators (ACRE)
  • Preferred to be a Certified as an Employment Specialist
  • Complete annual CPR, First Aid, OSHA and SOAR training
  • Complete annual Human Rights, Abuse Neglect, Maltreatment and Exploitation Training
  • Obtain and maintain Food Handler’s Permit
  • Complete TB test
  • Complete any other required training assigned by Covenant Employment Services

 

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent public relations skills working with individuals and employment personnel
  • Ability to work successfully unsupervised
  • Works directly with individuals to obtain employment in their community at minimum wage or above
  • Develops and maintains regular business contacts in the community as well as professional relationships with individual, family, advocates, support coordinators, worksite personnel etc.
  • Uses customized employment techniques, including Discovery and Person Centered Service Planning (PCSP) to offer customized employment services
  • Through observation, individual interviews and general interactions, identifies individual’s skills, abilities, conditions and contributions to customize the employer relationship
  • Ability to manage multiple time demands balancing a case load of 8-15 individuals requiring customized approach to employment
  • Acts as a liaison in the community to ensure smooth transition and continuity of service between individuals and employer
  • Displays integrity, trust and follow through in all interactions
  • Follows established safety practices and procedures to ensure a safe and healthy working environment
  • Knowledge of Vocational Rehabilitation process and services
  • Works effectively within a team to enhance service delivery while respecting the right to privacy, confidentiality, HIPPA of the individual
  • Attends organizational training and provides documentation of certifications required for employment with Covenant Employment Services
  • Understand qualification process for Paratransit or other transportation options, be able to train an individual on how to use these services
  • Maintains documentation of services provided that clearly and legibly reflects the individual

Residential Apartment Lead

An experienced lead is needed to assist in overseeing residential services for adults who have disabilities. This is a great opportunity to positively impact the lives of the people we serve. The Apartment Lead ensures that all aspects of the residential program are performed according to standard and that residents’ physical, medical, and social needs are met.

 

The Apartment Lead fulfills the following duties

-Teaches and trains individuals receiving services to do as much as they can for themselves.

-Creates weekly menus and completes grocery shopping in accordance with the menu.

– Indirectly supervises 5-7 employees in the assigned Residential section.

– Routinely trains staff members on data collection, menu planners, medication logs, and all other job requirements.

– Schedules and assures adherence to all daily routines and activities for individuals receiving services.

-Implements programs such as community and home based activities, money management including creating a list of needs and wants for the individuals receiving services, spend down shopping, and maintains petty cash fund.

 

Requirements:
– High school training/education and at least one year of higher education. Two to five years related experience in the human services field. Education may be substituted on a two for one basis.
– At least 21 years of age
– Ability to communicate effectively in both written and spoken English

Day Support Staff

Job Coach

The Work Activity Center is a non-profit service center dedicated to enriching the lives of adults who have physical and cognitive disabilities. We are seeking a full-time addition to our employment services division where we provide supported employment opportunities and job skills training.

 

The Job Coach trains and coaches clients in the performance of their production work, encouraging them and assisting them in reaching their individual goals.  The Job Coach inspects the work produced by program participants, evaluates their abilities, and assists them in their efforts to obtain employment.  This is a rewarding opportunity to serve people in the community and assist with facilitating production projects that provide job skills development for our program participants.

 

JOB DUTIES
–  Actively teach and train program participants to complete job tasks to the level of satisfaction required by the employer
–  Assist program participants with developing skills and tools needed to apply for jobs
–  Evaluate job opportunities and identifies job openings for which participants may apply based on their skills abilities
–  Assist participants with all aspects of applying for job opportunities preparing for job interviews
–  Provide support after a job is obtained to ensure success in learning the job responsibilities, acclimating to the work environment, and adequately performing the required duties in order to maintain employment

Employment Services Coordinator

The Work Activity Center provides opportunities for employment, independent living, and social interaction to adults with developmental disabilities. We are seeking an experienced Employment Services Coordinator to be responsible for successful development, delivery, and quality of all elements of Work Activity Center employment division. 

Required Qualifications
-Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university
-Five years related experience/and or training.
-Competency in Microsoft Word and Excel
-Maintain a valid Utah driver’s license and clean driving record. Required to safely drive a vehicle.
-Must be able to stand, walk, sit, and lift 50 pounds or ¼ of his/her body weight.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

1. Develops new business opportunities which engage Work Activity Center participants in meaningful work projects at enclave sites located in the community as well as at Work Activity Center.

2. Maintains professional and trusting relationships with business clients by assuring customer satisfaction.

3. Assures the production and delivery of high quality product and services in a timely and satisfactory manner that meets customer expectations. 

4. Negotiates and prepares contracts that assure adequate revenue for Work Activity Center and meaningful work opportunities for Center participants.

5. Oversees the delivery of contracted custodial services.

6. Develops, plans and executes strategies to improve department processes and services.

7. Effectively selects, trains, supervises and evaluates direct subordinates, and assures the effective selection, training, supervision and evaluation of all other department personnel. Disciplines staff in a fair, objective, consistent and ethical manner.

8. Upholds and promotes established policies and procedures set forth by applicable regulatory agencies, such as the U.S. Department of Labor, the Utah Division of Services for People with Disabilities, the Department of Vocational Rehabilitation, OSHA, etc. Assures that Employment Services staff members understand and comply with applicable regulatory standards.

9. Upholds and adheres to Work Activity Center policies and procedures.

10. Assures that participants are adequately trained in the performance of their jobs and all necessary safety measures, and assures that they are properly supervised at all times.

11. Maintains current, accurate and adequate reports and financial records, including balancing reports, and assures that required reports are delivered to appropriate Center personnel in a timely manner.

12. Has an excellent attendance record and arrives at work, appointments and meetings punctually.

Starting Salary: $18.50 per hour- depending upon experience.
