Grief Camp for Kids & Teens
Comfort Zone Camp is seeking numerous volunteers for three upcoming weekend sleepover camps in Utah for children ages 7-17*. Comfort Zone Camp, in partnership with Intermountain Health, serves children who have experienced the death of a parent, sibling, primary caregiver, or friend. All weekend sleepover camps are offered at no cost to families. CZC provides a safe, nurturing environment where kids can have traditional camp fun, while at the same time acquiring tools to help them cope with their loss. Since 1999, CZC has helped 25,000+ children.
* Ages 7-17 (18 if still in Highschool)
Volunteer Description
We need volunteers, especially young men, ages 18+, to be paired with a child ranging in ages 7-17. The volunteer would be what we call a "Big Buddy". Big Buddies serve as the child’s anchor for the weekend and take part in all aspects of camp alongside their camper. Big and Little Buddies eat meals together, play games, sleep in cabins, and participate in Healing Circles, which are support groups led by licensed clinical mental health professionals. There is no need to have experienced a loss or know anything about grief. All you need to do is be present and support a child throughout the weekend while they work through their grief.
