Graduate Writing Tutor

The Graduate Writing Center (GWC), located in the Marriott Library, is hiring two writing tutors (also known as graduate writing fellows) for Fall 2023 and Spring 2024.

The GWC is interested in hiring strong readers, writers, and communicators who will provide their graduate student clients with constructive feedback on their drafts (coursework, thesis and dissertation chapters, and other writing tasks). Work will take place in person and over Zoom, and while tutors will be on the schedule for 20 hours each week, they won’t typically be booked for all of their appointment spots.

Each tutor will earn a ≈$16,700 stipend spread out over fall and spring semesters (paid for by the Graduate School), and they should speak with their department about available tuition benefits. The new hires will be required to take a one-credit tutor-training course, taught by the Writing Center Director, to learn basic writing center philosophies and best practices. If you are interested in applying for this position, please send a resumé/CV, a writing sample, and an unofficial transcript to Anne McMurtrey at anne.mcmurtrey@utah.edu. Letters of recommendation are optional but appreciated.
