Assistant Professor

The Providence College Department of Social Work invites applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in its baccalaureate level social work (BSW) department commencing in August 2024.

The Social Work program at Providence College was first accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) in 1976 and has been continuously accredited since that time. Its graduates are highly regarded by employers and graduate programs in social work. Unique to this position is the small, personalized community of learning that characterizes the educational model at Providence College. The Department has approximately 50 majors and is a four-person department with three full-time faculty and one full-time Field Education Director, which offers small class sizes and relationships with students that are supportive of their goals and aspirations. Our student body has grown increasingly diverse and a strong commitment to supporting the success of students from historically marginalized social, economic, and cultural groups is preferred. The Department of Social Work and college highly values student-centered and interactive pedagogy to support and mentor our students within and across disciplines. The department also supports faculty-student research collaboration/mentoring.

The focus of teaching is research/statistics and diversity, anti-racist and intersectionality courses. The successful candidate will also establish a scholarly research program and possess a willingness to be active in professional service to the college’s expectations of tenured/pre-tenured faculty members.

The candidate for the tenure-track Assistant Professor in the BSW department will teach quantitative research and statistics and core diversity/intersectionality courses. The department faculty and staff enjoy a collegial and collaborative culture and relationships, working closely with one another within and across campus disciplines.

The candidate will have an MSW from a CSWE accredited program and an earned doctorate in social work (PhD/DSW) or related field and demonstrated teaching effectiveness. The candidate will have post MSW practice experience at either the micro or macro level or both.
