Restitution Recovery Specialist

The Utah Office for Victims of Crime (UOVC) is seeking a Restitution Recovery Specialist to support the agency in identifying restitution owed to the Utah Office for Victims of Crime. The Restitution Recovery Specialist will prepare documents to submit to court, prosecutors anddefense attorneys to assist in the procurement of restitution orders from the court. In addition the Specialist will monitor and update status ofoffender payments and recommend appropriate legal action if necessary, as well as monitor court calendars.

Principal Duties

  • Preforms investigative activities to determine if offender is employed, where he/sheresides and possible sources of income.
  • Contacts individuals or organizations to secure delinquent payments, and/or makespayment arrangements for money due.
  • Performs investigative activities to evaluate and determine the whereabouts of obligors, ifa liability exists, their employment and sources of other income or assets or to identify and
    Prepare and submit proper restitution paperwork to prosecutors, courts, advocates, AP&P,Board of Pardons, and Parole and other agencies.
  • Reviews, researches and responds to restitution inquiries from numerous sources.
  • Discuss and negotiate terms or settling subjugation or restitution debts owed to UOVC.
  • Ensure offender compliance through tracking, contracting and collection of debts owed.
  • Evaluates all the information to determine a case's status.
  • Prepare and submit affidavits in response to subpoenas.
  • Receives, researches and responds to incoming questions or complaints; providesinformation, explains policy and procedures, and/or facilitates a resolution.
  • Review claims with in the office to ensure proper paperwork has been received to ensurea correct restitution order from the court.
  • Reviews spreadsheets generated by the accounting technician to locate where accountreceivables should be recorded.

Our Ideal Candidate

  • Some college courses or Bachelor's degree preferred, but not required
  • Experience with collections a plus
  • Experience as a legal secretary, paralegal, and/or experience with the courts preferred.
  • Legal secretary or paralegal certification a bonus
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, Adobe, and Google calendar.
