Housing Employment Specialist

The Road Home has been a leader in the fight to end homelessness for almost a hundred years.We provide low barrier emergency shelters, supportive services, and housing-first minded rental assistance that helps individuals and families step out of homelessness and back into the community. We are seeking compassionate and empathetic individuals who are interested in making a difference in the lives of others and their community.

Job Summary
The Employment and Benefits Specialist will provide Trauma-Informed, person-centered employment and income related services to individuals who are experiencing homelessness with the goal of helping achieve stable housing solutions quickly and efficiently. This passionate person will help The Road Home achieve its overall mission of ending homelessness by helping individuals connect with the services they need to obtain permanent housing in our community.

Income Specialist
• Assess program participants’ vocational functioning on an ongoing basis, using background information and work experience to tailor job searches specific to each individual.
• Conduct job development and job search activities directed toward positions that are individualized to the interests and uniqueness of the people on your caseload.
• Contact employers to learn about the needs of local businesses. Describe support offered by Housing programs and the program participants’ strengths that are relevant to available positions.
• Write job support and employment plan with program participants, incorporating input from Rapid Re-Housing Case Manager, Behavioral Health Clinician, and other agency staff.
• Help foster motivation and develop skills while providing job coaching on effective job search techniques.
• Monitor and evaluate progress of program participants.
• Complete monthly reporting on assigned metrics

• Demonstrates awareness and desire to understand diverse populations • Ability to contribute to the Agency’s commitment to enhancing awareness and appreciation
• Willingness to understand that housing first, harm reduction, low barrier access to resources is best practice and essential to our mission at The Road Home.
• Ability to set and maintain good boundaries, using Trauma-Informed Care as a guideline

Education and Experience
Work experience as an employment specialist with homeless or disenfranchised populations preferred.

Required Skills and Abilities
• Must be a dependable self-starter
• Ability to work individually in a self-directed manner and as part of a team
• Excellent organizational skills
• Strong computer skills
• Strong knowledge of local job force and availability
• Ability to work in highly stressful situations
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse populations
• Ability and willingness to accept direction from Housing Manager
• Knowledge of workforce development principles and practices
• Knowledge of interviewing practices
• Commitment to delivering services within a Trauma-Informed framework

Physical and Equipment Requirements
Ability to lift 25 pounds.
Ability to stand and walk for at least an hour at a time.
Ability to drive a vehicle.
Other physical requirements should be added for positions that require bending, twisting, lifting,
operating equipment, etc.
