Camp Hope America Camp Counselor

This volunteer opportunity provides firsthand experience working with children and caregivers, who have been victims of crime, in a camp setting and in follow up peer support groups. The position is an unpaid volunteer position at our 5-day summer camp session, with the possibility of a longer-term commitment as a mentor at our monthly activities. Ability to work extended shifts during special events, including the ability to work 5-6 full days at camp including overnight.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
•Experience working with youth, preferably with youth who have experienced trauma
•Due to the nature of this position, the successful applicant must pass a criminal and child abuse background check and continually meet the requirements of the Bureau of Criminal Investigations (BCI)
•Must be a minimum of 18 years of age
•Fully vaccinated against COVID-19

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following duties and responsibilities are intended to be representative of the work performed by the incumbent(s) in this position and are not all-inclusive. The omission of specific duties and responsibilities will not preclude it from the position.
Applicants must be prepared to demonstrate the ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.
•Undergoes required training in trauma-informed curriculum that will be used within camp and peer support groups.
•Attend the full 5 days of camp and facilitate camp activities with assigned group of youth. Volunteer will have the Program Manager and other staff present for support and guidance.
•Attend follow up peer support groups after camp to serve as an ongoing mentor and support for youth in the program.

•Respond quickly, appropriately and effectively to crisis situations

•Maintain professional boundaries with clients

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires occasional lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds. Requires ability to participate in recreational activities. Requires occasional field work; may work in all types of weather.
