Independent Living Trainer

The Work Activity Center is a non-profit service center committed to enriching the lives of people with disabilities.  We provide day activity programs and at-home care designed to promote independence and personal development.  We are seeking energetic, cheerful individuals to assist people with being independent, active, and involved in the community. We support residences throughout the Salt Lake Valley and we have a variety of available schedules and hours.

Duties include:
- Assisting with meal planning and grocery shopping
- Training and providing assistance with household activities and personal resource management
- Accompanying clients to medical appointments
- Assisting clients with participating in the community, which may include social events, plays, sports events, and so forth. (During COVID, these events have been limited or modified to keep our clients and employees as safe as possible)

This is a great position for students who are looking for part-time work in the evenings or on Saturdays. Also called an SLH Trainer, the Independent Living Trainer will visit 2 to 3 assigned residents once or twice each week to assist them with general household duties, with obtaining groceries, basic household items, and with being active in the community. This part of our residential program provides individuals the supplemental assistance they need so that they can maintain an independent life at home.

This is a part-time position with a flexible schedule.

- High school diploma or equivalent
- At least 21 years of age
- Utah driver's license,  a good driving record, and own vehicle for transporting clients (mileage expense reimbursement applies to cover the cost of gas and wear & tear).
- Must be able to pass a drug screen and criminal background check
- Have a history of dependability and ability to work independently with little supervision.

Starting rate of pay: $11.00 per hour, depending upon education level
Status: Part-time (20 - 25 hours per week)

**To ensure the safety of our employees & community, the Work Activity Center follows Utah Health Department and CDC’s recommended guidelines. All employees are also issued personal protective equipment.**
