Assistant Professor (Lecturer) - Online

The University of Utah, College of Social Work invites applications for a 12-month career-line faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor (Lecturer) with responsibilities for instruction and online education. This is a non-tenure track position intended to be a long-term position within the University’s Career-Line Faculty structure, with a renewable contract.

The University of Utah and the College of Social Work value candidates who have experience working in settings with students from diverse backgrounds, and possess a strong commitment to improving access to higher education for historically underrepresented students.

Required Qualifications

Applicants must be MSW -prepared Social Workers; Ph.D. in Social Work is preferred. A minimum of three years social work teaching is required; five or more years teaching online/distance and/or in-person education is strongly preferred. Additionally, a minimum of three years of post- MSW social work practice is required; five or more years of post- MSW practice is preferred. A minimum of two years experience with online instructional design and curriculum development is required; five or more years of online instructional design and curriculum development is preferred.


•Prepare and teach two required or elective courses in the BSW and MSW Programs during each semester: fall, spring and summer. Teaching assignments may include evening, weekend, online/distance education courses.

•Initiate and oversee the development and construction of online education courses.

•Participate in University-wide committees to research new technologies, innovations, and production practices to further establish and enhance online educational standards and administrative plans and policies.

•Develop and implement quality assurance/improvement strategies to evaluate online education courses.

•Ensure the quality of online courses by reviewing and monitoring course evaluative data.

•Assist in the professional development of faculty by providing support in online instructional design, technology-based course development, design and delivery techniques, and use of media and technology.

•Establish and maintain project management protocols for online education course development and production.

•Create and maintain cooperative, collaborative and effective working relationships with administrators, faculty members, staff and other persons or entities involved in the development, implementation and evaluation of online courses.

•Serve on College committees, including BSW and MSW Program advisory and admission committees.

•Other duties as assigned.
