ITSW Experiential Scholarship

Why become an experiential scholar with ITSW? Students gain new knowledge about social justice priorities through a community of faculty, students, and staff engaged in social change. The leadership group and members of ITSW define the Initiative’s programming – experiential scholars are part of this leadership group that comprises faculty, staff, and students. As an experiential scholar, students have an opportunity to community build, outreach and develop partnerships, facilitate educational events, and support peers as they tackle social justice concerns in the 21st century.

Benefits & Eligibility: Students enrolled in the University of Utah College of Social Work’s Program are eligible to apply. There are no health/medical or other benefits associated with this position. This scholarship includes a salary benefit of $4,000 for the entire year. Experiential learning scholar funds are applied to the student’s tuition, fees, and other outstanding educational expenses, and will disburse to the student’s tuition account in two payments: $2,000 applied in Fall Semester and $2,000 applied in Spring Semester.

  • A letter of intent detailing relevant experiences and an explanation of your interest in being an ITSW Experiential Scholar.
  • Resume.
  • A writing sample of a paper that reflects ITSW’s mission.
  • In your email subject line, include “Experiential Scholarship Application: Your Name, the Year you are applying for.” For example, “Experiential Scholarship Application: Jane Doe, 2016 – 2017.”

Selection Process: All applicants will receive a follow-up email no later than April 15th*. Candidates will be interviewed and a final decision will be made in early May.

*Should the deadline and/or date of the follow-up email fall upon a weekend or holiday, please note the application deadline will then be the next business day.
